Provision of health services is a devolved function in Kenya and county governments plan and budget for it. Devolution has been a blessing because it is supposed to make access to equitable, affordable, and quality health care easier for the people.
Poverty is the biggest obstacle for people to access quality health and essential medicine. This is so in the slum areas of Nairobi as well as in the ASAL regions of Kenya.
Devolved governance has presented unprecedented opportunities for counties. However, despite the budgetary allocation to health, the financing allocated to health infrastructure, and other service delivery indicators, this has not wholly been adequate.
CNHF Health intervention in these counties seeks to address the areas of Malnutrition Related Health Complications, Maternal Health, and access to Essential Medicines.
1. Partner with public and private not-for-profit health sectors in the counties to finance poor patients' access to essential medicines. We estimate to cover 50,000 patients per year.
2. Support a total of 20,000 women (in each of the four counties: Wajir, Garissa, Mandera, and Tana River) who are nursing children below 5 years of age with rations of Nutri-mix for children to combat malnutrition.
3. Support Volunteer Community Health workers with monthly stipends to help provide basic prevention and care services, and deliver health promotion messages through home visits.
