Water supply and sanitation in Kenya are characterized by low levels of access to water andsanitation, particularly in urban slums, ASAL, and rural areas.
Seasonal and regional waterscarcity in Kenya worsens the difficulty of improving water supply.
With a population of 53 million, about 28 million Kenyans lack access to safe water and 41million lack access to improved sanitation.
Clean water has become increasingly inaccessible to a vast majority of people in Kenya and according to WHO, there were reported 51.2 deaths per 100,000 live births related to unsafe water in 2016 and this number continues to rise.
CNHF seeks to help increase families’ access to safe water and basic sanitation, especially in the poor urban areas of Nairobi, and in the ASAL counties, where this is lowest.
1. Construction and drilling of 100 boreholes for 100 Communities (i.e., 20 in Nairobi slum areas, 20 in Wajir, 20 in Garissa, 20 in Mandera, and 20 in Tana River) to provide clean and safe drinking water.
2. Provide free community-wide chlorine to the treatment of all water drilled to make it safe for drinking.
3. Procure and install water storage tanks: Procure 5,000 liters capacity water storage tanks to provide enough capacity to provide 5 liters of water per pupil per day in the selected schools. Then connect the installed water storage tanks to the water supply system.
4. Construct hygienic toilet facilities in selected schools.
