Conservation and human development need to be mutually reinforcing. The main source of livelihood for people in the target counties is nomadic animal husbandry.
Build grassroots capacity and networks for nature conservation.
Adaptation: Increase annual per capita water availability through the development of water infrastructure i.e., construct 200 (1 M-litres capacity) water pans across the target counties.
Promote participation and equity in natural resource management.
Educate young people about nature, and promote and support effective conservation partnerships locally, nationally, and internationally.
1. CNHF recognizes that people’s quality of life benefits from nature conservation, and in many cases, their livelihoods, health, and security depend on it directly.
2. Climate change is leading to increasingly frequent droughts and unpredictable precipitation patterns, resulting in greater scarcity of natural resources. Shrinking resources are driving competition among herder communities for the remaining grazing areas and water resources and worsens existing conflicts. Livelihoods and food security are increasingly threatened because the natural resources linked to food security are not being sustainably managed in the counties.
